Long-serving Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has shocked the footballing world by taking to the English press to launch a simply stunning attack on the club’s fans, the manager calling the group of supporters who chose to express their lack of faith in the manager last weekend “mindless idiots”. The manager clearly felt forced to react after some supporters used last weekend’s 2-2 draw at home to Swansea to ignore the merits of a Wolves comeback from two goals down to instead voice upsetting chants regarding the manager’s future at the club.

In 1991 it was just creepy since nearly half of the cast members depicted on the backglass were dead. Presumably for that reason there have been some machines featuring the local sports teams and stars. Chicago Cubs Triple Play isnt too bad due to the Cubbies national popularity. The Big Hurt Frank Thomas was a solid major league ballplayer, but not really worthy of a pinball machine themed around him. The most egregious example of this was 1978s Bobby Orrs Power Play, released not long after the trade that sent Orr from Boston to Chicago. Nationally, no one outside of Boston and Chicago cared. My hunch is that it was made to scam some free season tickets out of the Blackhawks management.

THE BAD CONVERSION FOR THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET:

During the height of pinball’s popularity was common practice to rebrand a perfectly good game for the International market. Sometimes it was released by the US company, other times it was licensed to a foreign operation. Youd think that there would be some creative control over the rebranded themes. Youd be wrong.

While I have a good grasp on the US pinball demographic I have no idea what sort of degenerate plays pinball internationally. Based on some of the re-themed machines its probably better I dont know. Mata Hari was a classic machine of the early 1980s. The German release was rethemed as the more foreboding Lady Death. This one at least makes sense as they had some Nazi imagery that Germans are understandably sensitive about (despite being historically inaccurate, since the real Mata Hari was executed during WW I). Less understandable is the retheming of a military themed game called Special Force in the US to the downright bizarre Special Forces Girls, featuring comely women in low cut, cleavage baring fatigues.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been punished by the Football Association after officials at the FA deemed him guilty of making inappropriate comments about Premier League referee Howard Webb.

Ferguson made the comments prior to the Red Devils’ crucial Premier League tie on the 8th of May at Old Trafford against West London side Chelsea, with an eventual win from Manchester United in effect making sure of another record-breaking Premier League title. The comments at the time from the Manchester United manager didn’t seem like anything too out of the ordinary, with the Scot simply revealing before kick-off: “We are getting the best referee, there is no doubt about that. But [getting a bad decision] is definitely our big fear”.

However, it was the timing of the comments that led to an FA charge for improper conduct, with FA rules clearly disallowing Premier League managers from speaking about match officials in the build-up to a particular game. It is also thought that officials at the FA were keen to take a hard stance due to the further promotion of their Respect campaign, which has come under fire for being just a gimmick rather than a sustained attempt at introducing greater levels of respect into the game.

Neutral football fans will certainly believe that Ferguson is deserving of the charge since he has only just returned from a five-match touchline ban handed out by the Football Association for making critical comments towards referee Martin Atkinson. The comments were once again made around the time of a clash against Chelsea, but this time the manager’s remarks came after the final whistle. The United boss was clearly keen to take the pressure off his side after they slipped to defeat at Stamford Bridge against the Blues but overstepped the mark in his criticism of the referee, the Scot revealing his belief that Atkinson was neither “fair” nor “strong”.

Ferguson will have until next Monday to respond to the charges but it’s unlikely that the issue will take the gloss off a magnificent achievement for the Scot on a personal level, the latest Premier League title representing his 19th at United and allowing the club to break an extremely impressive record.
