Love the tracking feature for monthly expenditures. Well worth the money. Importing into Quicken was much less scary than I expected. It truncated a few items, but that’s about as bad as it got. Wow, that makes sense. Clearly Intuit’s programmers weren’t thinking and this is an obvious mistake with the architecture of the system; having two separate classes of payee makes no sense whatsoever! I just got finished customizing my home screen in the 2011 version, and that helps, but still, I don’t like it as much. I owned an older version (2000).

Now a week and change into owning Quicken, it’s been a bittersweet experience. It’s good for tagging and setting aside my occasional business expenses, and once I managed to wrangle the interface I’ve found it useful for organizing my business clients and invoices. No matter how many times you send them they will send you an email stating that they are waiting for you to send them those files. Program worked for five months until Sept 15, 2011 until they upgraded their servers. Personally I regret buying it. I recently upgraded from Quicken 2008 to Quicken 2011 on a PC running Windows Vista.

Recently however Microsoft has decided to discontinue the product and as of January 31st I had to either upgrade or live without the ability to get updates of my financial information through the software (although I could still manually visit each site and download, what a pain). I also have a small home business in which I use Peachtree 2009 which is a horribly complicated piece of software and I never fully got it working how I wanted. It seems as though they pulled a hunk of code from 1990 and reworked it to shove something out in the market. The software doesn’t use basic Windows user interface or commands, which is why it reminds me so much of old DOS software.

You play the hunt and search game and it can be very frustrating at times. After using Money Plus for years, that is to be expected. Spoke with Quicken support for over an hour via chat and they were unable to help so they escalated the issue. Over two weeks passed with no word from them and no working software.

There is NOT one new feature of Quicken 2011 that I use with the exception of the automatic transaction download, and that is because Quicken changed the process in order to charge higher fees to banks. I’ve been a loyal Quicken user since the early 90′s and have upgraded religiously over the years. This problem continued even after creating new cash flow reports from scratch. Any minor action while working in the cash flow report creates another 2 minute delay.

No ownership or any issues, even when the application’s error message clearly states NOT to contact your financial institution as it’s not their problem. Of course, guess what their support does, Blames your bank.

This review addresses only the data conversion “feature” because I couldn’t get to anything else. I tried to convert from Quicken for Mac 2005 to Quicken for Windows 2011, and the only word for it is “incoherent”.
